Congratulations!

There has never been a better time to become involved in girls football

So where do I start?

Girls football has grown year-on-year in Wales recently, becoming the number one team sport. Over 13% of the total FAW registered players identify as female. Many of the barriers which existed in recent decades have been removed so that a far more equal platform exists than ever before.

There are two Main Routes For Girls Starting Football In Wales

Join A Club

  • Grassroots football clubs form the foundation for a successful Women’s game in Wales. Many clubs have existing girl’s teams, who are happy to take players through their first steps in football and beyond.

  • On this site, you will find Club Profiles that outline location, club ethos, culture, pathway etc, to help inform which team is a good fit for your child, these are available here.

  • Upon contacting a club, they may invite you to a trial training session so that your child may consider the environment and whether it is something they want to pursue.

  • Contact Email Address (parents),

    Full Name (childs),

    Date of Birth (childs),

    Place of Birth (childs),

    Resident Address (childs)

    Head and shoulders photo (childs).

  • When your club shares information with the FAW, you will receive a form to your email address which you should print, sign and return to the club for finalising. Once finalised, you will receive another email confirming that registration is complete. This means your child may play in matches.

  • We appreciate that some girls may wish to play football within a mixed-gender environment. Girls can play in mixed football teams until the age of 16 in Wales. FAW Rules also allow girls to play up to 2 school years lower to develop at their own rate. Details of all FAW clubs are available here.

  • Aimed at Girls aged 4-11, Huddle is delivered by clubs and partners to help girls take their first steps into football within a fun, social and non-competitive environment. Sessions are built around games and coaching to introduce basic skills, and girls can be directed to nearby teams from these sessions.

  • A list of Huddle providers, along with details on how to sign up for individual sessions, is available by pressing the button below.
